Striving for excellence in all aspects of school life

  Foundation Stage

The Bossy King & Nursery Rhyme Nativity Dec 2010
Reception class overcame the adversity of heating problems and a power cut to treat everybody to a rousing performance of 'The Bossy King.' Ellis proved to be very bossy whilst other Kings once more proved wise, angels sang in heavenly tones, animals behaved well in the stable, 'busy, busy' shepherds tea towel tastic, star dancers grace personified, the holy family proved angelic and servants served superbly. Well done to all of our performers and the Foundation Stage team, for organising things so well. I am sure all in attendance will remember the performances for many years. Another performance is being planned as we speak where Annabel will have the opportunity to play The Bossy King in true bossy style!

Nursery also shone brightly this week and our little stars performed 'Nursery Rhyme Nativity' with great panache. The whole class put a huge amount of effort into their show and should be very proud of themselves.

  Reception Go Wild May 2010

Both Reception classes had a hugely enjoyable and informative day out on Thursday at Paradise Wildlife Park . For many of these children this was their first school trip and without exception, all 59 children were a pleasure to take and super young ambassadors for Morgans. Highlights included: seeing all the animals first hand and particularly the big cats, feeding the animals, the playground, the adventure playground!, lunch, the Animal Olympics (complete with low flying parrot), the double-decker coach and the discovery by Chloe that if 10 Reception children jump up and down in front of Meer cats, they will copy!

  Fire Engine Frolics March 2010
A huge thank you to Ian Veale and his team who brought a fire engine into school for the Reception and Nursery children to investigate. The children heard an informative fire safety talk, found out about the special equipment fire fighters use and even had the chance to each use the hose. Great fun and memorable. Here are some pictures of our own fire 'imps' in action.

  Reception Road Safety Feb 2010

On Friday both Reception classes and a number of their parents enjoyed an informative and practical session on road safety from Cathy. This is to consolidate the topic of 'People Who Help Us.' Many thanks to those of you who joined us and to Cathy for her time and resources.

  Morgans Foundation Stage

At Morgans we have both a morning and afternoon Nursery class and two Reception classes. In March 2007 we achieved the Hertfordshire Quality in Standards award for the quality of Education we provide.

Our Nursery and Reception classes work very closely together enabling us to become familiar with the children, providing valuable continuity and ensuring a smooth transition from Nursery in to full time education in Reception.

Fundamentally, we offer a carefully planned play-based curriculum throughout the Foundation Stage. As young children learn best by being active and involved in meaningful learning situations, this is the approach we use. Furthermore, positive experiences at this time can help children to become more confident, independent and well-motivated. Achieving success and receiving praise are vital at this stage.

Our curriculum is centred around topic work and incorporates all areas of the Early Learning Goals. Planning is based on a two yearly cycle so the children experience the topic in either Nursery or Reception. Our topics include All About Me, People Who Help Us, Animals, Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes, Toys, Clothes and Journeys as well as including the Seasons and various festivals.
