  Sports Day Result July 2011

The last two of five sports mornings took place this week and luckily the rain did not stop play. When all points were totalled this year's house champions were Mimram with 308 points, second were Lea with 300 points, third were Rib with 282 points and fourth were Beane with 249 points. Well done to all competitors who represented their houses and especially to Mimram for emerging victorious. Well done to all staff for organising their classes so well and especially to Mr Moore and Mr Sadler for their respective extra roles. It was great to see so many spectators cheering on our intrepid athletes.

District Sports Runners Up!!! June 2011

On Wednesday our team of Morgans athletes once more burned up the tartan in the hunt for large schools District Sports honours. Competition across the six events as always proved fierce and the Morgans team tried very hard. Yet again dates conspired against us since our Year 4's were at Cuffley Camp. This meant our Year 3's had to stand in and compete against other school's Year 4's. They acquitted themselves very well given these circumstances. The team supported each other vocally throughout and saw some fine Morgans performances. The boys romped home in the 700m with Jacob and James both winning their age groups convincingly. Jack also proved the fastest boy in the district winning his sprint. Very well done to all who represented the school and tried so hard. When all scores were added the Year 3 and 4's came 5th and the Year 5 and 6's came 2nd. The winner of both competitions - Bengeo (this time by 10 points!). Kitty and Liberty also flew around their distance race. The signs are good for next year and we will try our upmost to avoid the Cuffley Camp week!!!

Cross Country Crescendo as Morgans Cross Country Crew Cruise to Victory June 2011

On the 8th June 2011 sixteen runners from Morgans took part in a mob county cross country competition against all other Hertford primaries at Hertford Rugby Club. Kitty Voss came 3rd over all for the girls and Jacob Heighway came 1st over all for the boys. The overall winners for the competition were in fact MORGANS! We won the award, winning a shield to bring back from the competition. We had lots of fans to cheer us on and keep us going. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best, but we showed real strength and determination. The runners up all received medals as well as the winner! Many thanks to Mrs Lundy for helping us train and get us ready for the big run. Also, a big thank you for Mr Steve for training the Year 5s whilst Mrs Lundy and the Year 6s were away on the Isle of Wight !

Around 112 children took part in this activity including children from Wheatcroft and Bengeo - our biggest rivals! Lets hope we can retain the trophy next year.

Well done team!!!

  The Morgans Mile May 2011

Well done to all who took part in the epic event, which is the Morgans Mile. The sight of 420 children enjoying the camaraderie and thrill of running, along with the community support and encouragement of all our runners is most definitely one of the highlights of the Morgans School year. A huge thank you to all who once more helped make the event such a success. Thank you also to Emily and Tescos for their kind donation of the squash and biscuits, which our intrepid young athletes were most grateful for at the finish. Please either post a message of congratulations on our JustGiving site (which is the most tax efficient way of donating) or return all sponsor monies before the half term holiday. We will then be able to announce the grand total of everybody's efforts. The final page of this edition shows the enjoyment of our children and speaks for itself. What a healthy bunch we are!!!

  Hockey Heroics April 2011

On Tuesday 4th of April twelve Year 6's went to a hockey tournament at Simon Balle. We had an A team and a B team. The B team played three matches and lost two and won one. Unfortunately they didn't get through to the semi final but came third in their group. The A team played six matches and won five of them. They won their group. Unfortunately they lost in the semi final to St Josephs, though still came third overall. Both teams we had a fun day and tried hard.

Triumphant Netballers April 2011

Two weeks ago, the Morgans netballers played in a netball tournament against 7 other primaries at Wodson Park. As briefly mentioned last week, all involved played extremely well and the 'B Team' emerged eventual overall winners. Team spirit and support of each other was fantastic and all involved commented they all felt to have contributed.

Heather, Laura and Olivia assure me that Ms. Ashby was equally excited at the end and needed calming down by the teams. Really well done to all players and to Ms. Ashby for her coaching and taking the teams - on a Saturday!!!

  Awesome Indoor Athleticism March 2011

Morgans went to indoor athletics at Wodson Park. The team consisted of nineteen players which were from year six. We played five different running races and different field events. The Morgans team battled hard but in the end we came second behind Bengeo. We had a great time, especially when Alex decided to go head-first into a tunnel which you are supposed to go under, but he decided to take the whole tunnel with him and end up underneath the tunnel. That added humour to the whole event!

Everybody had a good time and enjoyed showing off their medals in assembly.

  County Badminton Feb 2011

Morgans school played in the Herts primary schools badminton team tournament on Sunday. The event was for Year 6 and below. This year we had two teams, the A team were made up of Rees (Year 6) James (Year 5) and Fenner (Year 6). The B team were made up of Max (Year 6) Oliver (Year 4) and Daniel (Year 4). We were first put in two groups of six teams. In each match we played one singles and one doubles game against different schools. Then we were re-grouped to play three more matches. There were some strong teams but we battled hard and the A team finished 3 rd and the B team came 10th out of 12 schools. We really enjoyed the tournament and hopefully next year we will try and improve our positions even more. Well done teams!!!

Morgans 3 Millmead 2

The Morgans players gave good accounts of themselves during Thursday's quagmire classic against Millmead. Character building conditions proved no barrier with some excellent moments of interplay linkage and movement when in possession. Our defence were equally resolute with some strong headers and tackles to deny Millmead an equaliser. Well played team.

  Happy (Celtic) Campers Jan 2011

Year 4 had a super day at Celtic Camp with the children being split into clans and having to earn gold coins by completing as many tasks as possible, until the Chief blew his horn to signal time up.  Mrs Voss manned the obstacle course, while Mr Scarisbrick took charge of the hunting practice game. Ms Bull, Mrs Catt, Mrs Culverhouse, Miss Goehringer, Mrs Monaghan, Miss Green, Mr Sadler and our link governor, Mr Cinnamon, all also accompanied the children and were a great asset throughout the day. Thank you to them for their help.

Clare Holt from the camp will be visiting Year 4 shortly to assess how the day went.  In their evaluations yesterday almost none of the children found there was an activity they disliked; although archery proved to be a bit tricky as the rushing flight-feathers could scratch! We feel sure the Celts were a hardier bunch!

Here is a report written by Jade and Nathan in 4AS and a number of the hardy Celts in action ...

It was a fantastic day at the first ever celtic harmony camp olympics . All the morgans children that where there really enjoyed all of the activities. The most popular games were archery and obstacle course. The least favourite activity was the stepping stone sack race. The other activities including throwing discus, javelin and shot putt; target hunting practice and finally relay races.

All of us were split into teams of ten. Points were given to every team depending on how quickly they finished each event. When all of the events had been finished the points were added up, the 'bear' team won! Well done bear team. We all agree that other schools would enjoy going. Thank you to everyone at celtic harmony camp for a wonderful day. From year 4 morgans school.

  U11 Basketball Competition Jan 2011

Morgans were able to enter two teams for the School Sports Partnership U11 (Year 5/6) Basketball 8-a-side competition which was played at Wodson Park . With four boys and four girls in each team, it was a highly competitive event in which 6 other schools were taking part from the Hertford/Ware area.

Morgans X and Morgans Y were fired up to compete with any that stood before them. The tension was in the air even as the coaching session took place prior to the games beginning. Appropriately warmed up, the teams took their places on the court and the battle commenced.

On show were some fine ball handling skills coupled with the sublime dribbling skills of the master dribblers, Dom and Dan. With the added competitiveness of Erin and Lorna, there was a feeling that both teams would be successful.

Morgans Y were able to beat all competitors in their group games and progress to the final. With all holding their breath to hear for the next finalist, Morgans X were to find that they only failed to reach the final playoff due to scoring less points than St John the Baptist school. Morgans X were therefore placed in the runner up final.

With the tension building and adrenalin pumping, the teams once again took to the courts. Morgans X, led confidently and expertly by Abdul, took command of their game and managed to get two quick baskets. Morgans Y found themselves in a titanic battle that would eventually only be separated by one basket. With end to end attacks and defences holding strong it looked as though there would be no winner. St John's broke forward and an accurate long shot proved to be our undoing. Morgans Y battled hard in the little time they had left and came agonizingly close on a number of occasions to levelling the score. Time eventually ran out on Morgans Y and the final was lost. However, as with all Morgans teams, they were winners in defeat with the excellent attitude they showed after the game by shaking hands and congratulating St John's . Morgans X went on to win their runners up final 4-2 and again were outstanding in their attitude towards the team they defeated. Another proud day for Morgans and all the children who took part should take pride in the part they played in an excellent day.
