Striving for excellence in all aspects of school life

  Year 1

  RE June 2011

Year 1 have been learning about natural wonders of the world in RE. This week we learned about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. This is usually celebrated in the Autumn and is a thanksgiving for the fruit harvest. The sukkah is a flimsy shelter which Jewish families live in during the festival. All meals are eaten inside the sukkah and many sleep there as well. This shows total trust in God for their safety. We coloured and cut out fruits to hang fromt the roof. We hope you enjoyed looking at it.

Visit to Bekonscot model village May 2011

On Wednesday Year 1 went to visit this wonderful model village set in the 1930's as we have been learning about old and new homes. We had a great time and the sun shone on us. The behaviour was brilliant and made Morgans proud! Many thanks to the parents that helped on the trip. A quote from Emma 'This is like the bestest place ever!' and from Mia 'I want to go back again'. You can't say more than that really.!

  Library Visit March 2011
Over half term a display was put up at Hertford Library showing Year 1's work about 'The Gingerbread Man'. Last week we went down to visit the library so that we could see the display. While we were there Teresa spoke to us about joining the library and what sort of things we could borrow. We were also allowed to look at the books and then Teresa then read us a story. Since then a number of us have joined and visited the library. Why don't you go down and see our display. You might even want to borrow some books!

  Sukkot Sukkah June 2010

In Year 1 we have been learning about how religious people show their thankfulness for the natural world. This week we learned about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. This festival is held in the autumn, lasts for seven days and is like the Christian harvest festival. We built a Sukkah in the playground. This is a temporary hut with at least 3 sides and a roof covered sparsely with branches. This lets the rain in and allows you to see the stars. We coloured fruits and hung them from the roof to represent the fruits that Jews thank God for. They often eat in the Sukkah. We asked Josh from Reception to come and inspect it, as he is very knowledgeable about the Jewish faith. We think he approved! We had a lot of fun and loved showing the Sukkah to our families after school.

Year 1 Visit to Bekonscot Model Village May 2010

This week's Morgans' Magnificents were Year 1, who wonderfully wrote and read the following recounts to the school about their trip to the hard to spell Bekonscot Model Village:

"Yesterday we went to Beckonscot Model Village . We travelled there on a coach. I was in a group with Mrs Beanlands, Leon, Jack, Fynn and Louis. My favourite part was the tennis court." By Roberto.

"Yesterday we went on a trip to beconscot Model Village . I really enjoyed it very much. We got there by coach, I felt a bit sick on the coach. I was a bit frightened when there was a pretend fire and there was real smoke coming out of a hole in the house (model). Then we looked at the model fun fair. I liked it very much." By Layla.

The quality of handwriting and clarity of reading was equally impressive. Very well done Year 1.
