Educate One Kenyan Child July 2011

You may remember that the Autumn Term Children's Council organised a fundraising day to raise money to 'Educate One' Kenyan child. It has taken quite a long time to arrange this but we now have the details about the pupil we are supporting. The pupil is called Antony Lukeme. He is 14 years old; the age Kenyan children move to secondary school. Here is an extract from his letter.

Thanks Morgans School for your sponsorship.

Hello Morgans members, I hope you are all fine. Receive warm greetings from Antony Lukeme in Ololulungu Boys High School . I am continuing well with my studies and I am very grateful for your sponsorship. The school is doing well. We have now closed for part of April. Have a nice time and may God bless you, Morgans School .'

It is wonderful to know that we are helping a child to be educated in another country where education is not free and available to all. Hopefully we will be able to print a photograph of Antony in a future edition of the Morgans Mail.

Well Done to Drew who individually raised £26.85 for Comic Relief last Friday as a result of selling activity sheets for use on Friday afternoon. An entrepreneur if ever there was one and a great effort!

  MacMillan Fundraising Feb 2011

Well done to our school council for their MacMillan fundraising efforts.

They raised an impressive £344.05 for MacMillan as a result of their 'Strut Your Stuff' non-uniform day and 'Garden On A Plate' before half term. They were particularly impressed by the effort and attention to detail shown on many of the entries.

  Rainbow Warriors Nov 2010
The school hall was awash with colour, bouffants, perms, mullets, dreads and pig tails of various shapes and styles during Friday's 'Crazy Hair and Hat' assembly for Children In Need. The 'Coolest Bear' proved a popular venture and the casual, crisp, cuddly, and colourful catwalk competition proved fierce. The 'Best Dressed and Coolest Bears' were deemed by the Morgan's Children's Council to be, Space Bear owned by Ben, and Borrowed Bear, owned by Rhianna. Well done to them and the MCC for organising the event. Thank you for all of your contributions, £367.15 was raised for Children In Need.

  Kenyan Discovery Nov 2010

On Wednesday, Richard Long from the Mara Rianda Charitable Trust visited our school to talk to Year 6 about his work with schools and communities in Kenya . He showed us many photographs of the amazing wildlife and also of the schools that the charity supports. We saw pictures of the improvements that have been made over the years. The Morgans Children's Council then presented Richard with a cheque for £422.55 which was raised as a result of our recent 'Educate One' African flag day. He was thrilled by everyone's generosity and told us that it was enough for 18 months worth of secondary education for one child. What a privilege to be able make a difference to a child's life in this way. Richard is visiting Kenya in February and intends to find out exactly who we are helping. We hope to be able to communicate with the child in the future. Thank you to Richard for his time and to all of you who contributed.

  Kenya Total Oct 2010

Well done to the Morgans Childrens Council and thank you for your donations. The Harvest Festival non-uniform day has raised £375.68 to educate a Kenyan child for one year. We intend to try to contact the organisation in the hope of tracking one such child across the year. We will let you know how the Morgans' Children's Council progress with this project.. See the next page for an African flagtastic fandango ...

  African Flag Fandango Oct 2010

Well done on dressing in appropriate African colours on Friday and making Morgans resemble the 'Rainbow Nation' to raise money to educate a Kenyan child. Each class was assigned an African country and had to dress in the colours of their national flag. On morning duty before school on Friday, a good number of pupils (and parents!) knew their colours, though not all knew their country names ... Some of them were admittedly challenging. Here are a selection of colours on display, complete with frantic flag flapping.

Scary Day Poem

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble

Eye of ghost and bone of skeleton,
Teeth of witch and wing of pelican.
In the cauldron boil and bake ...
Flesh of devil and seeds of pumpkin,
Leaf of flower and hair of munchkin.
