  Year 2 Mathematical Quantum Leap

Our younger children enjoyed a well told creative story
revolving around detection, maths and a love of number and calcultion. The Year 2 children returned to class having obviously hugely enjoyed the event, found it most amusing and great fun!!! We may well have the same company back, ‘Quantum Theatre,’ in September for a Key Stage 2 maths event to launch the new school year which they also run.

Year 4 Have Reached Capacity ... Feb 2011
Tesco's new Community Champion, Emily, has arranged for the year group to practise making some juice 'cocktails'. Ms Bull very kindly organised to collect our 20 litres, which the children went on to use as the basis of their own cocktail recipe. The session went really well, as we busily blended Grenadilla, Tropical Juice, Watermelon, Cranberry, Grapefruit, Apple, Orange and Pomegranate, with varying degrees of success.  Our cook, Alison, lent us some plastic cups for the morning, which were all duly returned washed and cleaned, just as they were found. The sticky tables and smiling faces bear testament to the fact that the children were all actively and cheerfully engaged in learning about capacity, even if their mixing skills may have to improve before any professional cocktail occupation might be usefully considered. Thanks again to the support from Tesco.

Year 5 Maths Challenge May 2010

On Tuesday Year 5 competed in the area preliminary round of the National Maths Challenge. The competition is for a team of four to solve and answer maths problems. The team of Rees, Eleanor, Fiona and Sarah all performed well and came fifth out of the fifteen schools competing. The competition was very close and the team scored 40 points, and had they managed only another 4 marks, would have been overall winners!

Year 4 Capacity and Fractions Feb 2010

Year 4 used a creative approach to maths and understanding capacity and fractions this week. They had great fun designing their own healthy fruit juice cocktails, choosing appropriate fractions to total one litre. They then carefully measured and mixed their fruity fraction cocktails, before enjoying drinking them.
